We asked Dr. Michael Weinberg, Toronto Plastic Surgeon, to comment on whether plastic surgery or injectable procedures were appropriate in the 20 to 30 year old set. " It's an individual decision" says Dr. Weinberg. "Each patient's situation has to be evaluated on it's own. Some people will age earlier than others. Injuries, dental problems, poor diet or other stressors like smoking can impact some people quite early on. And, prevention is also useful".
He also points out that procedures such as nose reshaping, or lip augmentation are really not just about correcting age related issues, but are about enhancing self esteem.
There are also basic skin care steps that all people regardless of age can benefit from.
Looking broadly at procedures that are popular among those in their 20s and 30s, breast surgery, body contouring procedures such as liposuction, tummy tuck all rank highly. In one survey, when asked " Which part of your body are you most concerned about" 37% in the 30s age range chose abdomen and hips, and 18% chose breasts as their top concern. Dr. Weinberg points out that younger people do not attach any stigma to cosmetic procedures that will help them feel better about these body concerns.
So long as people get good information, go to reputable people and are well informed, he does not see any contraindication to treatment in these ages.
